red barn with a new green metal roof replacement

Metal roofing, while not as popular a choice as shingle roofing, is versatile and can be adapted to fit a wide variety of home styles. Many different textures and colors are available due to the range of coatings that can be applied, and metal shingles are even an option. Metal roofs cost more than other materials, but their lifetime is between 40 and 60 years with almost no maintenance or repairs needed during that time.

Frequently Asked Metal Roofing Questions:

Q: How much does metal roofing cost?

A: The cost of metal roofing depends on the quality of the metal roof system you want to install. Standing seam metal roofs that are custom fabricated and designed for residential and commercial properties cost between  $15 and $25 per square foot. This means a $10,000 asphalt shingle roof would cost from $30,000 – $50,000.

KM Construction uses premium Berridge Metal 24 GA standing seam metal roof systems. They come in 16.5-inch exposure and have hidden fasteners. As part of the metal roof system proper eave and rake accessories are used. These items are all made to spec for your individual metal roof system.

The average time to install a metal roof system by our specialty crew is also longer. It takes about 2-3 times as long to install these roofs.

Q: Can my metal roof be repaired?

A: Due to the durability of metal roof systems they are less likely to need repairs after heavy storms. If the damage is significant it may be possible to repair the section of the roof without doing a full replacement.

Metal roof systems should only be serviced by a metal roof specialist. The technician will look for cracks and issues with the metal roof seams. Then they will reseal all edges and seams as needed with a commercial grade polyprene compound. Upon inspection of the metal roof system the technician will be able to give a detailed report of the system’s overall condition.
