Cedar shake roofing involves a specific kind of wood shingle manufactured from western red cedar, cypress, pine, and redwood trees. There are many different types of grades of cedar shakes. KM Construction uses No. 1 premium grade which means they are 100% edge grain. These vertical grains ensure the highest shake performance.
The shakes also come in varying degrees of thickness. The “medium” shakes are Premium Grade Western red cedar with a length of 18 inches and a thickness of ½ inch. The “heavy” shakes are a length of 24 inches and thickness of ¾ inches.
